Effective Email Marketing
One of the easiest ways to attract new sales to a website is to use email marketing. To help you achieve the best results, Fluid Creativity have put together a list of their top five email marketing tips.
Be selective
Before sending the email, think very carefully about who you want to receive your marketing message and who is most likely to act on the information. Many companies already have a list of (potential) customers who they can target with their email campaign, but before you click the Send button, ask yourself if all the names on the list are relevant to your message. E.g. If you are advertising a sale of your men’s grooming products, do you think the women on your marketing list will be interested in that message? Is it coming up to a seasonal time (such as Father’s Day or Christmas) when more of your mailing list will be interested in what you have to say?
Be eye catching
An email marketing campaign, much like a traditional flyer or newspaper advertisement, has to be eye catching in order to engage the reader. A dull and liefeless creative will not attract the customers you have specifically selected to receive this email. Spend the time making sure your email has that wow factor and that it will appeal to your target audience.
Offer something new
A good way to encourage new sales to your site is to offer something exclusive via your email marketing. A special offer, not found elsewhere in your marketing or website, will help your readers to feel special and that they are part of an exclusive club; this will give them more incentive to act on the information you have sent to them, rather than them thinking “I can get that offer, or better, elsewhere”.
Follow up
Email marketing messages can be interactive and can therefore be tracked better than traditional post marketing. If you can track which customers acted upon your message be sure to use that information to encourage further repeat business. The telephone company Orange use this type of follow-up marketing to good effect. If a user takes advantage of an Orange Wednesday Offer, that customer is sent a text message a few days letter to say 'Hope you enjoyed your movie, don’t forget to book tickets for next Wednesday'.
Encourage viral messaging
If your message is not for existing customers only but can also be sent to new customers, make sure that your email message has something for them too. Sign off your email with your company’s name and your current marketing offer. If the email is forwarded to a friend, you want your marketing message to be clear and attractive. Hotmail uses this method to good effect. Each of the emails sent from a Hotmail account has an auto generated signature promoting the Hotmail service.
