Corporate Invitation Design

If your business is hosting a marketing network event, you want it to appear as professional and well thought out as possible. After all, when you invite others into a function hosted by your business, you are essentially inviting people to enter the same realm as your business. In other words, you are inviting open investigation, criticism, and assessment; You want the event to go off without a hitch.

As the saying goes "First impressions count" and although this type of thinking is considered to be shallow, it’s basic human instinct to judge a situation on site before learning more about it. For an event that is held by your company, the same process will take place. All aspects of the event, from the invitations to the after dinner speakers, will be analysed by your guests.

Designing a Good Invitation

The type of invitation that you use should reflect the type of business that it is going to represent. A new media company or marketing company will see positive results with a trendy, contemporary design and message, whereas a more established and traditional business, such as a funeral home or restaurant, will find better results with a more traditional or formal invitation.

A simple five step process takes an invitation from inception to print:

  • Business assessment – First, you need to determine the kind of business that is hosting the event. If you are a trendy insurance company, your design options are different than a five star restaurant. Once you've determined the type of image that your company portrays, you can move on to step two.
  • Event assessment – Determine the event that you want to be producing invitations for. A formal event will require different invitations to an informal networking event, so keep the event in mind with every decision that you make.
  • Message – Next, you want to decide on what the invitation is going to say. The obvious message will be the point of the invitation – a wedding, party, etc. A less apparent message, such as one of prestige or success, can be delivered through the design and layout of the invitation. Talk with your designer about the message you are trying to get across- they will have ideas on how to deliver.
  • Layout/Design – The layout and design of your invite should be easy to read and reference. Important notes, such as date/time and location, should be easily found and read. Someone reading the invitation should not have to struggle to recall what the event is and where it is being held.
  • Print – Ensure that your invitation is printed on high quality materials, and that the ink is water resistant so that it will not smudge. Regardless of the type of invitation that you are sending, one point remains true: do not send out a poor quality invitation, as it will reflect poorly upon the image of your business.
