Back to Fluid Thinking
Meet Our Designer: George Hill
As Fluid Creativity’s freshest meat, we’ve asked George to introduce himself and share his experiences so far.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m originally from Manchester and have just moved back here last summer after studying graphic design at the UCLAN and picking up a D&AD New Blood Pencil along the way. It’s great to be back and I can’t wait to see what this year brings!
What brought you to Fluid Creativity?
I think the best thing about Fluid Creativity is the team, from day one they’ve all been so helpful, knowledgeable and have really made me feel welcome! I think anybody that has worked with them will agree with me!
There’s also lots of coffee here and they order breakfast in every Friday morning, that’s a win!
What projects are you currently working on?
A bit of everything so far! Print, branding, digital, infographics. Originally I thought I wanted to stick to just print, but I think at the rate technology is developing, I’d be naive to avoid digital. Whilst new to me, I’m quickly being brought up to speed thanks to the Fluid team – thanks guys!
What is your favourite aspect of digital design?
It amazes me how immersed we are becoming with technology. There’s a vast amount out there now such as smartphones, tablets, computers and even our watches! I think it’s amazing to see how designers are utilising these innovations to make their projects even more creative and successful at connecting with people. Which ultimately I think is what design is about!
What design trends are you predicting for 2015/2016?
I think the best designs solve problems in the simplest way and I think people are starting to appreciate that more than ever! Clean, simple designs with bold colour are everywhere and I can see why!
I also think that wearable tech and immersive reality is going to have a big impact on digital design if they take off, but we’ll have to wait and see about that…
What advice would you give to aspiring designers?
Ultimately, be nice to people, work hard and don’t give up! It’s tough out there! Just remember, there’s 1000s of other graduates with a degree out there, you have to find something that makes you stand out – awards, big projects, work experience – take every opportunity you can!
